The Twin Omen
Among the High Elven Selduin people, twins were considered a terrible omen. Auin and Zen were born to prominent Selduin High Elven parents — descendants of the legendary mage Ish-ti-Mair. Because of the omen, they were raised as the same person:
- One twin would be in society while the other remained hidden at home
- Their family and peers never acknowledged two brothers
- Each night they shared their experiences through telepathic meditation, assimilating memories into each other
- After decades of practice, information flowed continuously between them
- They were described as “one person living two lives simultaneously”
This arrangement made them functionally identical in knowledge, personality, and experience — hence “basically the same person.”
The Scissors Discovery
Auin and Zen together discovered the The Scissors of Severing (Scissors of Ish-ti-Mair) hidden in a compartment beneath the family estate’s monument to Ish-ti-Mair. Both brothers experimented with the scissors on 32 classmates before determining their power. See The Scissors of Severing for the full history.

Zen departed for Eritessa as an Archlich. Auin — still High Elven — is presumed to be the current face of The House of Lycoris in Kouréas, operating through the General Ollus Au Lycoris and the Lycorisian military presence.
