The Missing Scout — Chapter 1's MacGuffin

A gnome scout of the Lashïngs, sent ahead to El Cinede by Lashara and gone silent. The whole chapter is a hunt for him — and when they finally find him (hiding in a couch, coughing purple phlegm), he begs: “Get me out of here. This place is a powder keg.”

Overview

Manny is the through-line of Chapter 1: planted in Ch 1.1 as one of Lashara’s three tasks, sensed near the High Spire, and finally found in Mars Von Eck’s office in Ch 1.6 — a gnome shrinking into the couch when bluffed, coughing purple phlegm from Veil-Tear mutation. He’d been working with Mars to win the vote and is firsthand evidence of the Crew’s experiments. Gypsy Jenkins escorts him home to Lashara (her send-off), and he survives — barely.
