Level-18 Tabaxi archmage — the only animal who stood at the end of the world. He died fighting Zen at the Forgotten Hour, then quietly resurrected himself, and a century later still reaches across death to whisper three words to the heroes he has chosen: “Come find me.”

Overview

Gray Star is a legendary Tabaxi wizard — one of the most powerful magic users in Kouréas. He was captured roughly six months before the events of The Forgotten Hour by the big bad (identity unknown at Session 0). Since his capture, settlements across Kouréas have been vanishing one by one — his imprisonment and the disappearances appear directly linked.

The party was dispatched north to find and free him before the spreading blight reaches Old Town.

Story

Session 0 — The Forgotten Hour

Gray is alive but imprisoned in a locked back room of the necrotic tavern near the petroglyphs of Oovuan. He can be heard hissing and spitting at his captors — “How dare you!” — a sign he is still functional and defiant despite months of captivity.

He was not freed by session end. The party knows he is there, a secret entrance has been located but not opened, and three unidentified levers remain on the wall.

Saint Gray — The Greenport Revelation

A century later, the Greenport vision reframes Gray Star entirely: he is Saint Gray, the patron saint of all the Animalia of Kouréas and Eritessa, a demigod “one in purpose” under Selûne.

  • He was the only animal present at The Forgotten Hour, and sacrificed himself against Zen and the Four Horsemen — a medicine check on his corpse found his spirit gone: he’d cast reincarnation magic on himself.
  • He is recorded in the Book of (Old Man) Jenkins and remembered in the Temples of Selûne across the land.
  • He is actively guiding the party from beyond death, having hand-selected them for his mission; he yanked them out of the Greenport vision with the words “You have some time, but not much… come find me.” — a standing ch5 quest hook.
