Synopsis

Session seven of Brin’s chapter opens on a gloriously unproductive pre-game — mic levels, 3D-printed minis, and Brin’s theory that the show’s view count is bleeding out purely for “lack of cleavage” — before Nortle recaps the wreckage of last time: Castle Leary exploded, Marie Holton got un-impaled, the mermaid queen Sissily was restored and promptly hatched a newborn, Mara Vilantis, and Astaroth fled revealed as more machine than woman, dragging the caged little-g goddess Purdona behind her. The party is stuck on last week’s fork: chase Astaroth, or climb back to the Orchard to give Basil her memory and severed hands back. Xeros spirals into a full conspiracy sermon that Selûne secretly goes dark three days of every twenty-eight, Foulclaw keeps rolling threes trying to channel her, and Brin — worn to the bone — declares “this really is a finale because I don’t give a fuck.” Play finally lands at the Orchard, where TBD reclaims his Water Whistle, his hearing sharpens, and the ground rings hollow. Something is very much afoot beneath their feet — confirmed, naturally, by bonking Nortle’s skull to check the pitch.

What follows is a slapstick puzzle-crawl that Brin openly regrets building. The humming underfoot turns out to be Astaroth’s metal insects misting antiseptic to scrub the trees to death; after a red-herring detour trying to charm the swarm with a stored song, they realize the bugs follow Nortle’s foot-tapping, not the music, and Xeros torches a shell-load of them, leaving a hand-shaped scorch mark. They crack the real puzzle — matching Basil’s five items to the five sense-trees of The Pillars (blood/taste, drill/sound, scalpel/touch, trinket/sight, alcohol/smell) — earning Foulclaw a levitating fragility lens (the trial-of-sight Firestone) that lights up three weak points on any body. They swim back to Mergonia, find Sissily dead mid-egg-laying and “bury her at sea” in about three seconds, and Xeros severs the necrotic tether binding Basil, who roars back with both sets of memory intact — and no hands. Since nobody has Lesser Restoration, Xeros duct-tapes her swords and gauntlets straight onto her nubs and calls it good, to Basil’s fury and the birth of a running bit: the “throwing on of stubs.”

Scrying with his Crystal ball of telepathy, Xeros finds the enemy underground, and the crew descends into the true horror of the episode: a dug-out cavern where hundreds of chained, tattooed criminals kneel in prayer, bleeding silver “god blood” out of Purdona into a mercury-filling basin — the Clorox Kill Box. Astaroth emerges, a leather-and-metal nightmare who scrapped her old organic cloning engine (Sissily) for the metal bugs, a gray and ravaged Millie Holton mind-controlled at her side. The boss brawl grinds toward midnight: Xeros cracks Purdona’s chamber with Crown of Stars and Silvery Barbs — something Astaroth didn’t even know was possible — while the party methodically eliminates every damage type until cold finally lands, Basil punches Millie free of her hypnosis, and TBD Misty-Steps behind the villain to whisper sweet nothings and jam Frost Fingers into the base of her skull. By the time Foulclaw’s Erupting Earth cracks the dish wide and pale celestial blood glows out, Astaroth — at 124-plus damage, fear finally in her mechanical eyes — taps her feet, summons a wasp swarm to block their opportunity attacks, and vanishes. Millie is dead in the dirt. Brin ends the night furious and delighted, promising a boob job before next time.
