The goddess of complete darkness — and, uniquely, a god of her own making. Where the Sun-King Oruel is “God that made man,” Gog is “man made god”: a mortal who forged herself into a deity, beholden to no higher power, to stop a utopia that would take away the agency of man.

Overview

Gog is the goddess and embodiment of the Pitch — utter, complete darkness — and the personification of the True Ekalian Path. She is the answer the Ekalian Gods give to the Golden Dawn: where Oruel is the maker who stands above his creation (“God that made man”), Gog is “man made god” — proof that a mortal can build their own god, owing nothing to any superior power.

Her cause is, in its own terrible way, a defense of free will. Oruel’s dream is a utopia in which good is the only choice — and to Gog that paradise is a prison, the quiet death of agency. She made herself a god expressly to break that utopia and keep mankind free to choose, even to choose wrongly. She is opposed to the light, but she is no mere destroyer; she is the cosmos’s argument for the right to choose.

Bound Location — Opsis

Gog is tied to Kaethos at Tlas Ekal, the anchor-site on the continent of Opsis — one of the two origins of the Ekalian ley lines that circle the world. Her counterpart Magog is bound at Nagol on Krios; from their two seats the dark ley lines radiate, opposite the single Oruvian epicenter at Orů (Eritessa).

In the Forgotten Hour

Long a felt-but-unnamed power, Gog cannot act directly — she requires harvested life energy to fuel her designs.

  • She created or is served by The Bag — an inverted flesh bag that spaghettifies living tissue and channels purified life force to her (ancestor of Zen’s Flesh Bag of Holding).
  • Her influence was first felt in The Forgotten Hour; at Greenport, a kobold death-cult worshipped her in a Temple of Gog, complicit in the genocide of the animalia (“release to the black”).
