Still trapped inside a comatose friend’s dream, the party burns another looping festival day at the Magus fairgrounds — chasing a distressed Wolfgang to the edge of a wood that isn’t on any map, hauling a hip-hop legend out from under a burning food truck, and staging a coup on the best bar in town just to run it themselves. Then the rap battle everyone came for ends with a dead microphone, a boy who happens to be the host’s son, and a whole crowd screaming fix. Who cut the cable — and who did they run to in the dark? Somebody’s owed a little justice.

Synopsis

The party is still walking through the repeating day inside comatose TBD’s dream — a Groundhog-loop Dream Cycle built around the annual Battle of the Bands in the magic-city of Magus. Fresh from the children’s Choldreth Mud Wrestling Arena, they catch the aasimar Wolfgang touch the Dreamcatcher at his throat and — instead of heading to the main stage as promised — slip away, distressed. Foulclaw tails him by air while Xeros casts Scrying and “live-streams” the whole flight back to the party, until Wolfgang vanishes past the treeline into a place that isn’t on their map: The Dark Woods. Nobody’s brave enough to follow him in alone. They file it away and go looking for lunch and a shower instead.

Lunch finds them. A floating food-truck in Magus flips into a grease fire, and pinned beneath it is an air-genasi hip-hop icon, Tupac DuJour — a rescue Nortle muscles off as good deed number six, and a hero Basil recognizes on sight. Tupac’s crusade against the harassment of the Genasi people (and his shared hometown of Pearl with Xeros) earns him a spot in the party’s heart, and the crew drifts to The Thirsty Maiden, where a rap battle is warming up. There Xeros talks proprietor Fawn Butterface into abandoning her own bar — a well-placed rumor that lazy Selfie is moving in on Butterface’s crush Van Illa, sealed with a Suggestion — and the party simply takes over the bar, Xeros dazzling the room and casting Distort Value on the tip jar for good measure.

Then comes the main event, hosted by Xeros’s lifelong idol, the aarakocra MC Freedom (co-hosted by Eric Coker of Rock Flag and Eagle): the grand prize a handcrafted Cherry-Wood Enchanted Microphone. After the party clowns through their own warm-up bracket — which soft-hearted Foulclaw wins by refusing to actually insult his friends — the true final pits the host’s son Lil Justice against a hooded newcomer, Trippity, secretly a phoenix. And as Trippity spits her closing lines, the microphone dies. The crowd roars rigged, Lil Justice is handed the win, and the room turns on MC Freedom. Nortle traces the dead cable backstage to the real culprit — a Bullywog hopelessly tangled in the wire, wailing that “she pushed me” and pointing at a cloaked figure already sprinting for The Dark Woods. Freedom, mortified, gives the enchanted mic to Xeros; a grateful Trippity slips the party another of TBD’s field-study scrolls; and its new Goliath rune drops into place beside the others to spell L-I-L.
