Glizzy Up the Girl — Ch 2.3

A festival where every good deed earns a reward, a hot dog contest that coughs up a message from a friend the party thought was gone, and a lovesick booth clerk who just needs a little help with the girl of his dreams. But the fireworks over the main stage keep flickering, a stranger begs to be freed from a mirror, and a symbol nobody quite remembers keeps glowing a little too bright. Sing loud, drink deep, and count your good deeds — because somewhere out past the beer garden, something is watching the show right along with you.

Synopsis

Back at the fairgrounds for another day of the Battle of the Bands, the party picks up Wolfgang’s job — find whoever keeps sabotaging the festival, and maybe earn a slot in the finale — and sets about it the only way they know how: by doing loud, chaotic good deeds and getting paid in glory. A commotion at a hot-dog shack (a “glizzy,” Basil learns, to her lasting dismay) drops them into a competitive-eating contest against a gluttonous elf, Joey Chestnuts, who promptly chokes — not on a hot dog, but on one of TBD’s field-study scrolls that Xeros pops loose by casting Enlarge on the man’s whole body. The scroll flares to life as a prerecorded message: “Hey guys, it’s me, TBD!” — a field-study journal from the party’s late Goliath friend, opening on his expedition into the Swollen Wastes and the trip back to the School of Magus to recover the scrolls he’d left in the library for Lashara. A nat-20 from Foulclaw IDs the strange mark on it as a letter of the Goliathian language: L.

From there it’s a tour of the fairgrounds and a checklist of increasingly unhinged kindnesses. Basil punches a wandering mirror to pieces to free the cursed soul trapped inside — a one-gloved dancer, Miguel Fajackson — whom Nortle then sweet-talks (on a nat-20 pope-hat persuasion) into joining their finale act, while Xeros produces a monkey from his pants for comedic effect. At the merch booth, a hopeless simp named Van Illa confesses he was shot down by the barkeep of his dreams, Fawn Butterface; the crew takes the case to The Thirsty Maiden, where Xeros’s homebrew the Lying Lyre turns the whole conversation into a compulsive-lying comedy (poor Foulclaw shrinks every time he fibs) and reveals the real problem: Fawn’s Honey Elixirs have been stolen and her no-show employee, Selfie, is skipping shifts to flirt with — of all people — Van Illa.

So the party fixes it, gloriously and terribly. Xeros scrying-drones on Selfie via his Crystal ball of telepathy until Basil confronts her (a nat-20 intimidation sends the girl fleeing in a puddle), Basil unbuttons a button to charm the shirt she’s owed out of Van Illa, Fawn walks in at the worst possible moment, a brawl erupts, and by the end both Van Illa and Fawn are knocked out cold behind the port-a-potties — where the crew “marries” them with gold-ink rings, a fake ceremony from Foulclaw the priest, and a shared bottle of Lustful Sangria Rosé poured down their throats. Deeds done, they take their backstage passes to the finale, where Roses and Gunzes trade off against Killasaurus — fronted by TBD, glowing-eyed and puppet-blank, his spells written on the back of his guitar. Then the little rune on the scroll flares blinding-bright, a vision of The Dark Woods, a shadowy antlered figure, and scrolls of strange symbols flashes past — the party finds themselves floating over a sleeping TBD in a room full of scrolls — and the light resets everything to 8 a.m., Fran calling them up to buy tickets all over again. The whole festival is TBD’s dream, and it’s a loop.

🎙️ Notable Moments

00:17:08 — The namesake. Chris drops the party by a hot-dog shack and delights in teaching them the word "glizzy."

GM: A giant glizzy adorning the top of this boot shack… you never heard “glizzy”? Gosh, you know Skibidi Toilet but you don’t know Glizzy? Basil: Dang, I considered myself young — and that ship is gone. GM: That is gone. Sorry to hear it.

00:51:47 — Xeros enlarges the choking elf and a scroll — not a hot dog — spatters out, then activates.

GM: Hey guys! It’s me, TBD! Xeros: …and I just peed myself. Son of a bitch. GM: Absolutely you did.

01:00:11 — Foulclaw's nat-20 identifies the scroll's mark, then burns a whole spell to read it.

GM: That symbol translates to the letter L. Foulclaw: Just one letter. Nortle: That sounds like it was worth a spell slot.

01:38:05 — Basil punches a cursed mirror to glitter and frees the one-gloved dancer trapped inside.

GM (as Miguel): Somebody put me in here, ma’am… I don’t know who — they had a hood on. Nortle: Why are you wearing one glove? What’s the advantage?

01:40:25 — To close the deal on Miguel, Xeros commits to a bit.

Xeros: I reach into my pants and pull out a monkey. GM: How did you have a monkey in your pocket?! …In this one instant moment I will allow it — for comedy.

01:52:33 — Xeros's Lying Lyre backfires beautifully on the whole table, Foulclaw worst of all.

Foulclaw: No, no — I start telling lies! Xeros: You’re like Pinocchio. Instead of your nose, you shrink.

02:11:52 — Basil downs the Spiked Hard Demonade and finds the worst possible place to unleash it.

Basil: I run to the bathroom. Xeros: You run to the port-a-potties and it just attacks everyone next to you. GM: And all the stalls. You just hear screaming.

02:21:30 — Xeros keeps his scrying "drone" running on Selfie long past the point of decency.

Nortle: This isn’t scrying — this is the voyeur… talk about invasion of privacy. Xeros: …so you’d better cut me off.

02:52:00 — The night's crowning "good deed": two unconscious strangers, wed behind the toilets.

Xeros: This is the lustful sangria rosé — I’m pouring both of these into their mouths, half and half. GM: Y’all married!

03:08:38 — The reveal lands: the whole festival snaps back to 8 a.m., and Chris says the quiet part loud.

GM: We have made it through the first loop… you horrifically discovered that you are in TBD’s dream. And that’s the first big reveal. Nortle: Not expecting that twist.

Cliffhanger

At the finale, a rune on TBD’s scroll flares blinding-bright and the world dissolves: a vision of The Dark Woods, a shadowy antlered figure, and scrolls of strange symbols — then the party floats over a sleeping TBD in a room full of scrolls — then everything resets to 8 a.m., Fran calling them to buy tickets again. The Battle of the Bands is TBD’s dream, and they’re caught in a repeating loop.
